Featured Figs: Autumn Druid, Gith Monk, Necromancer and More

community features ep1

Some of my favorite minifigs are ones I didn’t design myself. There are talented builders in this community making incredible characters, and I want more people to see their work. Featuring them here, on Instagram, on YouTube, and wherever else I post is one way I can help make that happen.

Featured Figs is a recurring series where I rebuild other creators’ minifigs, with their permission, and photograph them my way. I’ve been spotlighting other people’s LEGO photography for years, so this feels like a natural extension of that, just with minifig makers instead of photographers.

For this first episode, I rebuilt six characters from three community creators: asortaokaybuilder, builds.from.the.crypt, and edgy_mando. The lineup includes an autumn druid, a necromancer, a bard, a gith monk, a barbarian, and a dragon knight.

The parts lists are for my rebuilt versions of the minifigs.

Gith Monk

I spotted this Gith Monk by asortaokaybuilder on Reddit a couple of years ago and had to track down the legs to add the character to my collection. To my surprise, they were pretty pricey at over €4 on BrickLink.

My rebuild is nearly identical to the original except I don’t have the cool energy effects. This photo was taken a couple of years ago for a New Year’s theme.

Bard

Any quests that need a sly bard?

Asortaokaybuilder’s bard is a charming half-elf with an ornate cape that I think came from the Friends theme, if I’m not mistaken. For my rebuild, I swapped the head because I like seeing some hair peeking out from under a hat. I didn’t have that cape so I gave him a custom cape from my own shop, Minifig Realms.

Dragon Knight

I’m not particularly attached to Castle factions, and the first time I saw a Green Dragon from the Kingdoms theme was when builds.from.the.crypt reimagined a knight using parts from Ninjago. Their brick-built weapon is much cooler than mine, with its black dragon tip and dark green plume, but I kept the same length for my version.

I didn’t have the matching legs either so I used ones from the Fright Knight CMF 19 instead.

Autumn Druid

Builds.from.the.crypt created a stunning display piece to go with this wonderful autumn druid minifig. For my rebuild, I swapped the hair for a windblown piece in medium nougat color, then added a leaf cape from my shop to complement the dark orange leaves printed on the torso and legs.

This is edgy_mando’s minifig design and photograph. I believe it was the winning entry in a medieval minifig contest I held a couple of years ago. The clever combination of parts and the incredible photography sealed the deal.

That Fortnite hood is a gem and goes so well with the Marvel CMF. In my version, I swapped the cape for a One-Shoulder Mantle from my shop.

Barbarian

Talk about a grizzled veteran. Here’s The Bear leading his adventuring party through the woods. I kept most of edgy_mando’s original design, but swapped the hairy torso with claw marks for a regular muscular torso because I didn’t have the original in my parts bin. I also used a similar head with those wonderfully bushy eyebrows. This photo is also edgy_mando’s.

More featured figs to come

Rebuilding these six characters was a good reminder of how much you can do with LEGO parts, especially when you see how differently other builders approach their designs. Some combinations I wouldn’t have thought of myself, and others have stuck with me for years.

That’s what I want this series to be about: sharing the work of talented minifig makers and giving their creations a little more time in the spotlight. I’ve got plenty more characters I’d love to rebuild, so this is just the beginning.

If you know a builder whose minifigs deserve more attention, let me know in the comments. I’m always happy to discover new creations.
